An actor claims to be playing SAS hero Peter Ratcliffe in next year’s Call Of Duty, reinforcing rumours that it’s set during the Gulf War.

They haven’t officially announced it yet, but it’s an open secret that this year’s Call Of Duty is Modern Warfare 3 by Sledgehammer Games, and that it apparently started life merely as DLC – before being upgraded to a full release.

It’s always been assumed that 2024’s game would be a more traditional release, presumably developed by Black Ops makers Treyarch, since it’s their turn to make a new game.

There have been some leaks already, but Facebook posts by little known actor Luke Charles Stafford claims that he is playing the role of Ratcliffe in next year’s game, which is indeed by Treyarch.

The posts have been deleted now (although there is a new one saying he just auditioned for the role of Superman in James Gunn’s new movie) but they showed him in what seemed to be a motion capture studio, talking to people wearing Call Of Duty T-shirts.

Fans were quick to assume that he means Major Peter Ratcliffe, who served in the Parachute Regiment and SAS and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for his actions in the 1990 Gulf War.

Although little is known about the 2024 game, previous rumours have also suggested that it’s set during the Gulf War, following the leak of two images, one featuring a F-117 ‘stealth fighter’ and another showing what seemed to be Saddam Hussein’s palace.

We can’t show those images for legal reasons, but at the time it was also suggested that the game is codenamed Cerberus and is another entry in the Black Ops series.

Treyarch has already confused the numbering on those, so the new game will probably just have a subtitle. Given the bluntly named Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, there’s probably a good chance that the 2024 game is simply called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War.

The reveal for this year’s Modern Warfare 3 is expected to take place in early August so it’s going to be a very long time till you hear anything official about next year’s game. Although there’ll no doubt be further leaks long before that happens.
