Ronan Keating’s brother Ciaran Keating has died following a car crash, it’s been reported.

It’s been said that the crash took place on Saturday July 15 in the afternoon, when Ciaran was on his way to watch his son, Ruairí Keating, play for Cork City FC against Sligo Rovers FC.

Cork City FC released a statement on social media offering their condolences to the family.

‘All at Cork City FC are deeply saddened at the passing of Ciaran Keating, father of our player Ruairí Keating,’ the message read.

‘We extend our deepest sympathies to Ruairí and the entire Keating family at this exceptionally difficult time. May he rest in peace.

‘We ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course.’

According to The Irish Times, Ciaran, who was in his 50s, was named locally as a man who had died in a crash that occurred on the N5 near Swinford, Co Mayo.

The publication states that Ciaran was travelling with his wife Ann Marie to watch Ruairí in his match, and suffered fatal injuries in the accident, which involved two vehicles.

Ann Marie is said to have also suffered injuries, but they were not life threatening and she was treated at Mayo University Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle was also reportedly treated for injuries.

Ronan, 46, grew up the youngest of his five siblings – Linda, Ciaran, Gerard and Gary.

Back in May 2016, the former Boyzone star expressed his pride in his nephew Ruairí in a post on Instagram while he was still playing for Galway United FC.
