Gerry Turner has been unveiled as the first ever Golden Bachelor, and we’re already obsessed.

The retired restaurateur, 71, has become the first senior citizen attempting to find a partner in a spin-off of the hugely popular franchise.

This is the latest offering from ABC bosses, who also air The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise.

Gerry opened up about being the first older contestant stepping into the spotlight in the search for love, following the death of his wife, Toni, in 2017.

During an appearance on Good Morning America, he admitted that it is ‘still sinking in’, before teasing what he is looking for in a partner.

‘I would love it if I found a partner who was high energy, someone who maybe plays pickleball, someone that maybe plays golf,’ he told the hosts.

The widower also revealed that his daughters encouraged him to apply for the series, and shared his belief that his late wife would be cheering him on.

‘I have her picture on a dresser in my closet and every morning I give her the nod,’ he continued.

‘For a while, I was having a hard time figuring out if she would be okay but we always told each other when one of us goes, we want the other one to be happy.

‘She’s up there rooting. She’s saying, “Yeah, Gerry, do this.”’

The Golden Bachelor will be premiering later this year, but an exact date has yet to be confirmed.

It will air on ABC and stream on Hulu in the US.

‘After more than 20 years of fostering young love on The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, The Golden Bachelor showcases a whole new kind of love story – one for the golden years,’ the official synopsis reads.
