The Love Island villa and Barbie’s Dreamhouse is the crossover we never knew we needed, and it’s become a reality.

Former Islander Chris Taylor, who appeared on the show in 2019 and dated Maura Higgins for a six months later the following year before their split in May 2021, has Margot Robbie herself to thank for his cameo in the upcoming movie.

He confirmed the news a few days ago on Instagram with a vague reference to the ‘glorious ray of human sunshine’ who helped him land the role.

Now, he’s gone into a bit more detail about the strange turn of events that led to him appearing in the summer blockbuster and confirmed it was indeed Love Island superfan Margot who helped him out.

‘I know she’s got a secret account that follows Love Islanders, so hopefully she would have seen that,’ he told Cosmopolitan UK. ‘I saw her on the red carpet and I got to say a quick thank you, but I didn’t really get a chance to see her after that.’

Back in 2020, his housemates and fellow Love Island alum Michael Griffiths and Jordan Hames met Margot at the Birds of Prey premiere, and apparently the big screen star was ‘gassed to see them’.

The pals were sat having a chat about their night when ‘someone got a message saying Margot wanted us all to come to the afterparty’ – so naturally, they had to go.

Chris ended up at her hotel with a smaller group of guests, and he was able to have a more in depth chat with the Suicide Squad actress.

‘She’s just really down to earth and cool. She’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met,’ he said, while a year and a half later Warner Bros got in touch asking him to audition for Barbie.

He was ‘fully convinced it was a prank’ from a YouTuber, but six months later he was at the studio for costume fittings when h e saw Ryan Gosling – AKA Ken – walk past in the car park.

His scene appears in the middle of the movie, and when he was on set he was surrounded by Ryan, Ncuti Gatwa and Ben Kingsley, who all play different versions of Ken.

He hailed incoming Doctor Who star Ncuti as ‘the loveliest guy’ he’s ever met, and he helped him feel ‘comfortable’ during filming’.

He added: ‘I met him when I did my fitting and I was really surprised he knew who I was. He’d watched Love Island and said really nice things, including that I should have won.

‘He was just super easy to get on with, made me feel really at home and comfortable, because he knew I’m not an actor and was going to be nervous, so he came over and spoke to me a few times.’

Chris isn’t the only Love Island star to audition for the movie either, as Tasha Ghouri recently revealed she was in the running to be a dancer in the film but didn’t quite make the cut.

‘Filming was at the same time as Love Island so everything does happen for a reason,’ she told OK! magazine.
