WWE has set the SummerSlam main event and Tribal Combat is the order of the day.

Jey Uso and Roman Reigns came face to face at the end of SmackDown for the Rules of Engagement for their Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match on August 5.

The Head of the Table, who was flanked by Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman, asked if his cousin really wanted to do this, and Main Event Jey needed to get at Roman.

The Tribal Chief described his rival as a solider and a pawn, signing the contract only for Jey to insist it wasn’t needed.

He said they were going to face off in a Tribal Combat match, which has been chosen by ‘the elders’ essentially means anything goes and fits nicely into The Bloodline saga.

Roman draped his necklace over the title, with the pair shaking hands, and the champ had to stop Solo from attacking Jey.

He caught the Samoan Spike, inadvertently allowed Jey to lay out his younger brother before the trio made their exit, with the stage set for another emotionally charged match at SummerSlam.

Rey Mysterio advances in United States Title Invitational, Dominik Mysterio defends North American Championship and more

The first match of the night was a blistering, exciting Fatal 4 Way with the winner going onto face Santos Escobar next week with a United States Title shot on the line.

Despite fans being desperate for LA Knight to pick up a massive win, it was Rey Mysterio who emerged victorious despite the best efforts of Knight, Sheamus and Cameron Grimes.

Following the match, Escobar and Austin Theory got into it at ringside, leading to a row backstage and a non-title match being made for later in the show.

Charlotte Flair, who will challenge Asuka for the WWE Women’s TItle at SummerSlam in a Triple Threat with Bianca Belair, tried to build momentum against Iyo Sky.

She managed to beat the Money In The Bank contract holder despite the best efforts of Bayley, while Asuka laid her out after the bell to really send a message.

During the match, Shotzi appeared on the big screen in a frenzy as she repeatedly called Bayley’s name, sending her running and leaving Iyo on her own.

Backstage, Damage CTRL were rowing before Bayley realised her luggage had been stabbed with a pair of scissors through a photo of herself.

Escobar picked up a huge win over Theory as the two delivered a great bout that positioned the former to potentially beat Mysterio next week and then take the title at SummerSlam.

In another match set up earlier in the night, Dominik Mysterio ended up defending his newly-won NXT North American Title against for NXT alum Butch.

The pair delivered a decent a bout here, with Pretty Deadly’s interference – despite the best efforts of Ridge Holland – allowing Rhea Ripley to help Dom to victory.

Also, a special mention to Elton Prince coming out in a wheelchair (Prince Wheeliam), showing that he and Kit Wilson will still be a presence during his injury layoff.

There was an NXT presence through the night with the show coming from Orlando, and the Cavinder Twins, Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo, Tiffany Stratton, Trick Williams and NXT Champ Carmelo Hayes all appeared.

The latter two were shown backstage chatting to Bobby Lashley just one week after he teased a new group with the Street Profits.

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on TNT Sports.
