Sinéad O’Connor spent her final days in London after she left Ireland for the UK weeks before her death was announced on Wednesday evening.

The 56-year-old was found unresponsive at a home in south-east London and pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed.

The death of the Irish star is not being treated as suspicious and a statement from the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police were called at 11.18hrs on Wednesday 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area.

‘Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.’

O’Connor had recently returned to the capital after a long absence and posted a video from her new London flat, seemingly in good spirits.

In an unearthed Twitter video, the singer was chatting with fans, showing off her new digs and explaining that she planned to ‘write some tunes’ with a guitar she had hanging on the wall.

O’Connor proudly displayed her black Martin Johnny Cash electro-acoustic guitar and admitted she was excited to pen some future hits with the impressive instrument.

Appearing happy to be settling into the London home, the star filmed herself as she moved around the space that was littered with her things as she reorganised the flat in the capital.

She admitted she was still dealing with the death of her 17-year-old son and explained to the camera that her face was covered in Vaseline as it was supposed to be good for her skin.

The old footage re-surfaced as London Inner South Coroner’s Court said no medical cause was given in regards to her death and that an autopsy would be carried out.

The result of the autopsy may not be available for several weeks, according to a statement on the court website.

A statement from the court said: ‘The death of Sinead O’Connor in Lambeth was notified to the coroner on Wednesday July 26 2023.

‘No medical cause of death was given. The coroner therefore directed an autopsy to be conducted. The results of this may not [be] available for several weeks.

‘The decision whether an inquest will be needed will be decided when these results are known and submissions have been heard from the family.

‘If an inquest is to be opened, the date of the brief public hearing will be provided on our website.’
