Love Island 2023 final suffers disappointing ratings following Jess Harding and Sammy Root’s ‘shock’ win-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

Love Island is officially done for another year after Jess Harding and Sammy Root were crowned champions and the ratings are in.
ITV2 viewers have been left disgruntled by the vote, with many claiming it was ‘fixed’ and demanding a ‘recount,’ after fan favourites Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki were runners-up.
Tyrique Hyde and Ella Thomas, meanwhile, came in third place and Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble placed fourth.
While many people tuned in to see how the final episode would unfold, the programme attracted more viewers than the winter series which saw Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan being crowned the winners.
However, last summer’s series, which saw Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti take the crown, was watched by 3.4million viewers while only 1.5 million tuned in to watch Jess and Sammy’s victory.
An ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Last night, Love Island came to an end with 1.5m viewers across all devices. It was up on the final of series 9 shown earlier this year by +0.2m viewers.

‘It had 0.5m 16-34 TV viewers, up on the final earlier in the year by +0.2m viewers. It was the most watched programme for 16-34s on any channel yesterday.
‘For 16-34s, Love Island has won the overnight 9pm slot 45 times. That’s over 90% of episodes, excluding Unseen Bits.
‘Love Island has had over 300m streams on ITVX so far this year (based on streams to all series of Love Island).’

In 2021, almost 3m viewers watched Liam Reardon and Millie Court win the show, while the previous year, close to 2.5m tuned in for Finn Tapp and Paige Turley’s victory during the winter season.
Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea’s win in the summer of 2019 brought in more than three million viewers, as did Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham in 2018.
Meanwhile, Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay’s victory in 2017 accumulated an audience of more than 2m, while the 2016 season, which saw Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey win, brought in over 1m.
