If you’re planning on getting a physical disc copy of Starfield then it’s down to almost £50 at what used to be called Base.com.

Although Microsoft is always keen to push Game Pass as the most cost effective way to access its first party titles, the truth is most people will still end up playing Starfield the old-fashioned way, by buying the disc or downloading it from the Xbox store.

While the digital price is set in stone one of the main benefits of buying physical copies (other than you can sell them after) is that shops are free to sell them at discounted prices. Even if increasingly few shops sell them at all.

Starfield is out in almost exactly a month’s time and there may be better deals as we get closer to the release date but for now the best price is just £52.85 at Hit (the new name for Base.com) – which works out as a saving of over £17.

Does Starfield have a disc version?

As digital downloads become more and more popular, there’s been considerable controversy over whether the physical version of Starfield actually has a disc or if it’s just a box with a download code in it.

Microsoft insists that the standard edition, which is what this is, does come with a disc. However, that also means that the disc version won’t work with the Xbox Series S, as it doesn’t have a disc drive.

So you’ll have to buy the digital version of Starfield to play on Xbox Series S, which is going to work out more expensive (and another good reason to use Game Pass instead).

Although the standard edition is supposed to be £69.99 there is the more expensive Premium Edition for £99.99, which, amongst other things, allows five days of early access. It’s digital only though, so the only way to play the game early and own a physical copy is to buy the £250 Constellation Edition from GAME.

Starfield will launch on September 6, for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Unless you buy one of the special editions described above, in which case you can start playing on September 1.
