S Club 7’s Paul Cattermole was tragically ‘struggling financially’ before his death, a source has claimed.

The singer died on April 6, aged 46, with his death certificate showing he died of heart-related issues.

His death devastated his friends, family, and bandmates alike, with tributes pouring in for the musician.

The news came just two months after he and the band announced their massive comeback tour for autumn, which is still set to go ahead without Cattermole or his bandmate and former girlfriend Hannah Spearritt.

Despite the success of the band, many of its members have spoken out about facing financial difficulties, with Cattermole saying in 2018 while appearing on ITV’s Loose Women that he had been ‘living on the breadline.’

A source has now claimed that he was ‘not in a good way’ before his death and was ‘not doing well financially.’

‘Although it is shocking a member of the group would not be well-off, people who knew Paul might not be surprised by how little he left,’ they told The Sun.

The report tragically showed that the singer had died £20,000 in debt, leaving just £15,000 to his loved ones.

Cattermole reportedly had total holdings of £35,773 but owed more than £20,000 in debts and bills. Official documents show that after the deductions, Cattermole, who did not leave a will, had £15,489 remaining.

S Club – which also features Rachel Stevens, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Tina Barrett, and Jo O’Meara – was formed by Simon Fuller in 1998 before splitting in 2003.

Cattermole left the group in 2002 citing ‘creative differences’, though he faced difficulties in the years following and became bankrupt in 2015.

He put his Brit Award up for sale on eBay for a total of £650, saying ‘There’s bills to pay.’

The singer broke hearts when he appeared on Loose Women detailing his struggles with money in the years since he left the iconic pop band.

When asked about his ‘perfect life’ as a pop star and where it all went wrong, he said: ‘I wouldn’t say it was a perfect life because it’s not very easy doing a pop group thing, there’s the inside and the perception on the outside. It’s one of those jobs you take the rough with the smooth, and the rough is rough, the smooth is very smooth.’

Cattermole confessed he regretted trying to sell his Brit awards a few weeks ago as he hadn’t expected such a public reaction.

‘I wish it had been more quiet,’ he said.

He also revealed he’d taken several other jobs to make ends meet, from painting and decorating to gritting the roads.
