The Little Black Swimsuit is the style of the summer – and it’s sexy for so many reasons, says Love Island’s Ekin-Su

THERE is a time and place for bright colours and loud patterns – but the beach in summer 2023 isn’t one.

From Holly Willoughby to Jennifer Metcalfe, stars are showing the Little Black Swimsuit is the sexiest style statement of the season, overtaking the white bikini.

TV personality Ekin Su Culculoglu, 28, who launched her Love Island career in one, says: “Black is the new black. It’ll never go out of fashion.”

She tells Georgette Culley why the flattering colour is the chicest thing you can wear on the beach. . .

“EVERY woman looks sexy in a little black swimsuit, regardless of their shape or size.

Some might say black is boring but less is definitely more when it comes to swimwear.

Bold prints may look more exciting on the hanger, but fussy patterns and loud colours can steal the limelight.

The beauty of the humble black cossie is it lets YOU shine.

I’ve always loved black swimwear.

It has been my secret to feeling confident and sexy on the beach.

When I found out I was going to be on Love Island in 2022 the pressure was on.

I tried on about ten swimming costumes before my promo shoot and five were black. I thought, why am I warming to black so much?’

It made my figure look ten times better than any other colour or patterned swimwear.

I found pink and green shades washed me out. I wanted to feel my best and black was the safest — and most flattering — for me.

I’m not perfect, but when I slipped into the black cutout number I felt a million dollars.

It hid my flaws and hugged me in all the right places.

Instead of fretting about what I looked like, I could concentrate on the shoot.

What’s more, the little black bathing suit never goes out of fashion. It’s classic and eludes a quiet kind of effortless elegance.

Since leaving Love Island I have gone more natural and believe we don’t need swimwear in 5,000 colours to draw attention.

Simple colours and designs are far more sexy.

I’ve noticed a lot of celebs are embracing the more classic look.

Holly Willoughby is a ten out of ten and looks incredible in her black bathing suit.

It really compliments her pale skin and her trademark blonde hair.

That’s the beauty with black, it suits women of all ethnicities and can make anyone feel desirable.

It’s also iconic. The ultimate sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe, rocked black swimwear.

She had lots of different styles, including a halterneck costume and a classic strapless one piece and looked sensational.

Despite red being the Baywatch colour, I feel more like an 80s pin-up in black.

Fashion magazines are always telling us to ditch black and stop playing it safe but it’s nonsense.

Isn’t it better that women wear a colour they feel comfortable in rather than following the latest trend which might not be as flattering?

What’s more, the little black swimsuit isn’t all style and no substance.

The dark colour is also more practical. You’re less likely to spot stains on black clothing whereas white is less forgiving.

The only downside with black is the colour absorbs the sun whereas white reflects it.

So you might be sizzling in more ways than one while wearing it – unless you’re holidaying in the UK that is!

But I guarantee you’ll feel more sexy and comfortable in the little black swimsuit than any other colour or style. Take a picture in one, you’ll see!

I remember my Dad telling me this quote from American industrialist Henry Ford and it’s so true: ‘You can have it any colour, as long as it’s black.’

He may have been talking about cars, but that’s my motto when it comes to beachwear.”
