Ant and Dec face tough competition from This Morning star to keep NTAs title – and it’s not Holly Willoughby-Sabrina Barr-Entertainment – Metro

The shortlist for the National Television Awards nominations has been unveiled… and no surprise, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are up for yet another accolade.

However, the dynamic duo could face tough competition from a huge This Morning star – and it’s not Holly Willoughby, ahead of her return to the ITV programme.

For more than two decades, Ant and Dec have ruled the roost at the NTAs, winning 21 years in a row thanks to their presence on shows including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent.

So could they do it for the 22nd time at this year’s ceremony, which will be hosted by The Masked Singer’s Joel Dommett? Or could national treasure Alison Hammond come out victorious, ending their long-running, near-indestructible streak?

At this year’s NTAs, the shortlist for the TV presenter category includes the aforementioned Ant and Dec and Alison, in addition to The Chase’s Bradley Walsh, The Traitor star Claudia Winkleman and money-saving expert Martin Lewis.

All strong contenders for the recognition… but are we going to witness PJ & Duncan beat the rest of the competition yet again? Place your bets, people!

Earlier this year, it emerged that there was a chance of former colleagues Holly and Phillip Schofield facing off at the NTAs, as they were both included in the longlist for the TV presenter category.

But alas, neither of them has made the final cut.

The late Deborah James is being honoured in the authored documentary category for her film Bowelbabe in Her Own Words, a film that aired on the BBC about her life following her terminal bowel cancer diagnosis, before her death in June 2022 at the age of 40.

The other nominees are singer Lewis Capaldi, for his programme How I’m Feeling Now, Busted’s Matt Willis for his film Fighting Addiction, and former professional rugby league player Rob Burrow’s Living with MND, having announced his motor neurone disease diagnosis in 2019.

Love Island is going head to head with breakout hit The Traitors for the best reality competition, while it could be a battle between the Netflix heavyweights as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and Wednesday both receive nods for best new drama.

Could Happy Valley defeat Stranger Things for returning drama, and which show will take home the coveted Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award? It’s all to play for!

The late Paul O’Grady, who died in March this year at the age of 67, has received a posthumous nomination for his cherished programme Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs in the factual category, going up against Clarkson’s Farm, Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live.

The National Television Awards 2023 are due to take place on Tuesday September 5 and will air at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
