Following her skyrocket to fame at just 11 years old, Millie Bobby Brown is no stranger to the downside of social media but she has created a way to protect herself.

The 19-year-old has been sharing plenty of mushy selfies with her husband-to-be Jake Bongiovi, 21, since announcing their engagement in May.

Millie and the son of rocker Jon Bon Jovi first sparked dating rumours in 2021 before the Stranger Things actress appeared with a giant engagement ring on her finger earlier this year.

They’ve been keeping things private, teasing fans with hints about wedding planning and don’t often share their lives on social media.

Millie regularly posts on Instagram to promote her beauty brand but it turns out she’s actually not a fan of the platform at all.

In a new interview, she revealed that despite being the prime age for social media, she only really checks it to see how her Florence by Mills Beauty products are being received.

‘TikTok, Facebook, Instagram — I love seeing the way people use Florence. It’s really cool. I don’t have those social medias actually on my phone, I get to have people send them to me,’ she told Women’s Wear Daily.

The 63.5 million followers of the Enola Holmes star can expect videos of rescue dogs and promotion of her latest launches, including a memoir which is out later this year.

While she does post snippets of her personal life, these only happen about a third of the time – with the latest being a cute picture of herself and Jake posted last week.

She continued: ‘I personally feel it wasn’t adding anything to my life. And I felt positive when I didn’t have it on my phone. I just felt like I could live my life with more confidence and freedom, mental freedom [without social media].

‘I just feel better for it. But that doesn’t mean that the good social media I don’t get to see: I just have a wonderful team that kind of censors it all, so that I can protect myself.’

Her privacy is incredibly important to the young star, especially having gone through teenage growing pains in the public eye.

This extends to the much-awaited wedding between herself and Jake, as she added that they will be ‘closing the curtains’ on that event.

‘There are only so many moments in life that you get only once. And to have everyone’s opinions and eyes looking at that just feels unnatural to me,’ explained Millie.
