Lewis Hamilton, Mae Muller and Ncuti Gatwa were front runners on the list of nominees set to take over the Ethnicity Awards in November.
The Formula 1 racing champion, 38, joined Eurovision star and singer Mae, 25, and Doctor Who’s Ncuti, 30, as leading personalities on the event’s shortlist that was released today.
TV presenters Rochelle Humes and Gok Wan and Liverpool FC and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold were also mentioned ahead of the ceremony that was set up to celebrate the most influential Black, Asian and minority ethnic people in the UK.
Hosted in collaboration with HSBC UK, the annual extravaganza called out personalities they felt deserved accolades in acknowledgement of their achievements and work to promote diversity and inclusion.
Lewis spoke out earlier this year about the ‘traumatising’ racism he suffered in school from the age of six and was nominated for his unparalleled career in motorsport and unwavering philanthropic efforts.
At the time of his nomination, it was estimated the sports star had donated more than £20 million to charitable causes the previous year.

British Eurovision entry Mae earned herself a spot on the music artist category shortlist after responding to antisemitism in her industry.
She previously posted on Instagram: ‘To all my Jewish friends and followers, I love you. There is no place for antisemitism in this world. I’m very proud of my Jewish roots and so should you [be].’
Also visible on the shortlist was Disney’s The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey, a film that was pitched against Queen Charlotte, The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan and Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who for the media impact or progress moment award.

Ahead of the exciting evening, the award show’s founder and CEO Sarah Garrett MBE, said: ‘I want to congratulate everyone on our Top 10s.
‘So many people listed on the 2023 Ethnicity Awards shortlist are continuing to do good – both publicly and privately –and it’s vital that we get this opportunity to elevate under-represented voices in this way.
‘We need to keep the momentum going to tackle inequalities. The awards in November will bring all these amazing people together and celebrate their achievements.
