The best six white T-shirts for under a tenner – so in a race against Primark, Very and M&S what comes out top?

WHITE T-shirts have been a classic for years.

From Pamela Anderson in the Nineties, to Princess Kate today, everyone needs one in their wardrobe.

GettyPamela Anderson knows how to style a white tee – and was an icon for her style in the Nineties[/caption]

But with so many to choose from, how do you find the perfect one?

Abby McHale tries the best of the high street’s offerings in a size 14 – all for under £10 – and rates them out of five.

NUTMEG: 2/5

FITTED TEE, £5, MORRISONS

Dan WilliamsThis Nutmeg white tee is a bargain – especially if you like them tight[/caption]

NUTMEG has the smallest range of all the brands featured, but at £5, this one is a bargain – especially if you like them tight.

But after being worn all day for the first time it made my underarms smell.

It also had a slight mark that didn’t come off.

 M&S  : 5/5

RELAXED SHORT-SLEEVE TEE, £9.50

Dan WilliamsThis M&S version is nice and light but the most expensive of the bunch[/caption]

THE most expensive of the bunch, I had high hopes – and this one was by far the softest.

I really liked the way it looked on as I prefer my T-shirts to give me some shape but not be too fitted.

It was nice and light too, so it didn’t make me feel sweaty.

VERY: 4/5

ESSENTIAL CREW NECK, £6

Dan WilliamsThis white tee shirt from Very is is the right level of thickness[/caption]

THE Everyday own-brand value range comes in affordable prices.

The shape fitted really well and is what I would call a classic style.

It is the right level of thickness and is not overly stretchy.

It washed really well and didn’t need an iron, either. Result.

TU: 3/5

OVERSIZED BOXY T-SHIRT, £6

Dan WilliamsThis Sainsbury’s T-shirt was by far my favourite[/caption]

AT first feel, this Sainsbury’s T-shirt was by far my favourite.

It felt more like one you’d buy from the likes of Gap.

But I did get a make-up mark on it which did not come out completely at 30C.

It also came out of the wash very creased.

GEORGE: 4/5

REGULAR FIT COTTON T-SHIRT, £6

Dan WilliamsThis Asda number has a round neck and perfect sleeve length[/caption]

THIS Asda number is not overly soft or too stiff, with the fabric being 100 per cent cotton.

The shape of the top skimmed over my chest rather than being too tight, which I prefer.

The round neck and sleeve length also made this one of my favourites.

PRIMARK: 4/5

PRIMARK ESSENTIAL BOXY TEE, £4.50

Dan WilliamsThis Primark version is not as soft as some but is still light and airy[/caption]

AT this price, it’s an absolute steal. While it’s not as soft as some, it was still light and airy.

The sleeve length is the longest I would go – they came pretty much to my elbows.

But it’s a great option if you want a tee that is slightly oversized without being too long.
