It looks like Tekken 8 will be out early next year, as Bandai Namco deal with separate leaks about the game’s character roster line-up.

Fighting games don’t seem to have had much luck keeping secrets lately. Street Fighter 6’s entire roster leaked long before it was announced, we knew most things about Mortal Kombat 1 before it was officially announced, and details have been leaking about Tekken 8 for months.

One thing that wasn’t clear before is when Tekken 8 would be released, but now a new leak suggests that it’s due out on January 26, 2024.

The information comes from datamining various online stores, a process that has proven accurate in the past for leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia, and is almost always proven correct once there’s an official announcement.

When that announcement will be made is unclear, but it could be as early as a tonight, as it’s the Gamescom Opening Night Live event today and while there aren’t many brand new games that are expected to be announced, a release date for an already revealed title is perfectly possible.

Only yesterday, Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada was tweeting about how he was trying to catch those responsible for previous leaks, claiming that they contain ‘old information’, that has since been ‘changed or deleted.’

He didn’t seem to be referring to the release date though, as he implied that the leaker worked at a firm involved in debugging or localisation, which would be unlikely to know about such things.

If you want to read about the leaked roster the information is here but it’s effectively been confirmed already, thanks to subsequent announcements at last month’s EVO tournament.

Whether this sort of thing helps or hinders game is unclear, as while publishers always prefer to control the narrative around a game there can often be more excitement around a convincing leak than the official announcement itself.

Assuming the January release date is accurate the game is set to be released only on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

So far there’s no sign of any exclusive deals but if the game is out early next year you can probably expect an open beta later this autumn.
