The entire opening of the game and details of the customisation options have already leaked for Starfield and it’s only going to get worse.

Officially, Starfield will be released for Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6, unless you pay for the more expensive Digital Deluxe Edition or Constellation Edition, in which case you can play it several days earlier on September 1.

That alone is going to cause problems for anyone looking to avoid spoilers, but things have already got out of control with substantial leaks of gameplay footage and plot details already doing the rounds online.

Naturally, we’re not going to repeat exactly what’s been leaked here but it includes a long clip of the first 40 minutes of the game. Bethesda is trying to get it all taken down but while they’re keeping ahead of things on YouTube it’s very easy to find the leaks on Twitter, Reddit, and other social media.

The source of the leaks is not clear, as while it’s common for retail copies to leak out early for most major games, that doesn’t seem to have happened yet for Starfield.

The leaks seem to primarily come from streamers and influencers who have been sent early copies and who often don’t stick to embargoes or NDAs when they’re supposed to.

Since it is right at the beginning of the game, the footage doesn’t necessarily spoil that much. Instead, there’s more to worry about from ne’er-do-wells blurting out plot spoilers in random tweets.

In fact, the biggest spoiler came from the company behind rival space sim Everspace 2 warning people to avoid leaks, while inadvertently revealing what one of them is.

You can try to be careful, but if you’re going to be online a lot over the next couple of weeks you’re almost certainly going to come across Starfield spoilers, whether you want to or not.
