Mother of the groom shares dress for his wedding, people say it’s only appropriate ‘for drinking iced tea on your porch’

A MOTHER has divided opinion with the dress she wants to wear to her son’s wedding.

The woman’s son is set to tie the knot in a lavish ceremony scheduled for October at a venue in San Diego.

Her daughter admitted in a post on Reddit that she’s worried that her mother’s chosen dress isn’t appropriate for the wedding.

“So my brother is getting married in October in San Diego, and my mom is really not sure if this dress is appropriate for a mother of the groom,” the daughter explained.

“She is a large woman, and I think the dress suits her well but the bride has been particularly unhelpful about giving advice on outfits.

“Her mother is wearing a long dress, we believe.”

The daughter shared a snap of the ‘Delfina silk kaftan in sea nymph blue’ dress that her mom is planning to wear.

The floor length frock costs $465 from Nico Blu.

Commenters said the dress looks “casual” but claimed it’s difficult to say if it’s appropriate without knowing the dress code.

One wrote: “What’s the dress code and venue for this wedding?

“This dress would be great for a beach wedding with a semi formal or casual dress code, but if the dress code is any fancier than that or if the venue isn’t a beach, I think this dress is too casual.”

Another commented: “This kinda looks like a swimsuit coverup.

“Even if you’re looking for a kaftan-style dress, you can find dressier options that would be more appropriate for a cocktail dress code.”

A third said: “I would discourage this if it’s not beachside.

“It’s hard to be overdressed but I feel she will be woefully embarrassed to be this underdressed.”

A fourth wrote: “Love the colors but it looks like a beach coverup to me. I think she should keep looking.”

Another quipped: “That is a kaftan and it’s intended for drinking iced tea on your front porch.”

A Reddit user disagreed with the stream of people advising the mother to wear something else, writing: “I love it, but I also live in kaftans.

“She could have this altered to have a belt fitted inside the back, then tie outside the front to give it a bit of shape.”

Another chimed in: “That’s a really ugly dress, but technically appropriate I guess.”

A third added: “I love it.”
