Taylor Swift has caused more chaos online and this time fans are pulling their pets into the mix as they dance around their living rooms to her popular hit August.

The 33-year-old shut down ticketing sites following extraordinary demand for her Eras Tour dates and now, she has taken over TikTok – in spirit at least – as fans use their cats as props in a bizarre new social media trend.

Swifities across the globe have joined forces in celebration of the chart-topping hit and filmed themselves spinning their kittens around high in the air, posting the clips to the video-sharing site.

Playing the music in the background, users have been grabbing their animals under their limbs and swishing them around in circles as the singer’s vocals rang out.

Despite the trend mainly being focused on cats, the phenomenon in honour of the hitmaker was also applied to a bulldog and a tortoise – who appeared less than impressed to have their legs lifted off the ground.

The track August came from Taylor’s album Folklore and the idea of raising cats in particular into the air was seemingly a nod to the star’s public love of the feline friends.

To execute the trend, users have been strapping phones to their foreheads with the camera feature activated and running to pick up their pets and record their reactions as they flew through the air.

One participant in the challenge uploaded his video with a caption that read: ‘lmao this trend’, and dragged his tiny white kitten along for the ride.

Underneath the video, followers commented on the adorable clip with one writing: ‘Me wondering how I can do this with my English bulldog’.

Another said: ‘Oh how I screamed when I saw it was a kitten,’ while a separate account added: ‘Hahahaha how the little back legs are just flying around.’

In another attempt at the bizarre online antics, a user decided to take her pet racoon ‘for a spin’ and played Taylor’s lyrics as she danced with the animal.

Grabbing the furry friend from their cage, the video showed the account holder hoisted the raccoon up into the air under its front legs and whirling around in circles.

A fan of the clip left a comment on the app summing up the number of reenactments they had seen that read: ‘I’ve now watched approximately 82 cats, 6 dogs, 1 turtle, 1 chicken, 1 human reenactment, and 1 raccoon.’
