Strictly Come Dancing star Krishnan Guru-Murthy woke up feeling all kinds of confused after Greg Wise repeatedly tried calling him.

The legendary journalist, 53, will be competing against the likes of Amanda Abbington, Layton Williams and Angela Rippon on the BBC show – which is reportedly set to launch on September 23.

Taking a break from Strictly training, the news correspondent updated fans on how his bank holiday Monday was going.

‘So I was trying to have a lie in because I’ve done two nights at Reading Festival at 2 and the kids got in at 3:30 last night so I haven’t had a lot of sleep,’ he began.

‘And I was doing the news, filming and I’ve got to do the news today.’

Revealing how things took a turn for the bizarre, he continued: ‘Then the phone started pinging and it was Greg Wise who had just discovered I was doing Strictly and I met Greg on Bake Off a couple of years ago and he started texting me a load of helpful advice.

‘So lie-in was over and I thought “I’ll just get up,” and I just got downstairs and turned on the telly and there was Greg Wise on the telly and a minute later he was being asked about Strictly and wasn’t talking about me, so it was all a bit disorientating for a Monday morning.’

Krishnan had admitted he had previously sworn off ever signing up for Strictly but said that ‘something had changed this year.’

While his wife, Lisa, and 18-year-old daughter endorsed his new venture, he jokingly confessed his son, 16, is ‘appalled.’Krishnan, who said he was inspired by 2020 winner Bill Bailey, follows in the footsteps of other journalists including Natasha Kaplinksy, Susanna Reid and Jeremy Vine.

The long-running ballroom competition was won in 2022 by celeb cameraman-turned-dancer Hamza Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystal.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
