LeBron James’ son is already back in class after experiencing a cardiac arrest during a basketball practice.

Last month, Bronny James was rushed to hospital after collapsing on the court at University of Southern California.

The 18-year-old was released from hospital shortly after and has spent the last few weeks recovering, surrounded by his family.

Sharing an update on his health earlier today, USC head coach Andy Enfield revealed his hopes that the youngster will be back playing basketball soon.

‘The good thing is he’s doing extremely well and he’s in class right now. And we all love him,’ he said, via ESPN. ‘I think everybody is hopeful that Bronny will return to the court. We just have to be patient and take it step by step.

‘Our goal is to support Bronny in any way we can academically, athletically, and be patient with how things develop in his return.

‘He’s a terrific basketball player and was playing very well [before the cardiac arrest]. We all think there is a big upside in his game and he can help our team win.’

On Friday, the James family opened up about Bronny’s health scare in a statement, explaining that he had been diagnosed with ‘an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect, which can and will be treated’.

They expressed their ‘confidence’ that the teenager will make a full recovery, and a ‘return to basketball in the very near future.’

His loved ones added: ‘We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.’

News of Bronny’s ordeal broke at the end of July with an insider telling TMZ that a 911 call was placed from the Galen Center – where the team plays – after he became ill during a workout.

‘Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital,’ a family spokesperson said at the time.

‘He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.

‘LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.’

LeBron later added on Twitter: ‘I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great.

‘We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!’
