A reliable leaker says Nintendo is launching a red version of the Switch OLED, no doubt to coincide with Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Amidst the newest Switch 2 rumours, Nintendo will be airing a short presentation on Thursday, August 31 at 3pm, to share new information on Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

While it’s extremely unlikely that Nintendo will have anything to say about its next console during the presentation, it does seem likely that they will have a new console announcement, albeit a considerably less momentous one.

That’s because a recent leak claims that the company will be launching a new red model for the Nintendo Switch OLED in the near future.

This comes courtesy of perennial leaker billbil-kun from Dealabs, who has a very strong track record for accurate gaming related leaks, including hardware like the Starfield themed Xbox controller.

They suggest that the model is titled the Mario Red edition but, aside from both Joy-Con controllers and the dock being coloured red, it apparently doesn’t feature any Mario branding or iconography.

As for the pricing, billbil-kun says that it’ll be similar to the current OLED Models. As a reminder, Nintendo sells the OLED model on its own for £309.99 here in the UK, so expect the red one to cost roughly, if not exactly, the same.

Precisely when the red model will launch isn’t known but billbil-kun is confident that it’ll be out before October. Considering Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches on October 20, it’s reasonable to assume that the new model will arrive on or around that date.

If it’s meant to coincide with the new game it wouldn’t be surprising if Nintendo also plans on selling a bundle containing the red OLED model and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

The latest 2D platformer in the series, Super Mario Bros. Wonder will also be the first game not to star Charles Martinet as the voice of Nintendo’s plumber mascot.

Last week, Nintendo revealed that Martinet will no longer provide voice work for any of the company’s games. It’s not been confirmed who has taken over, but perhaps their identity will be revealed during tomorrow’s presentation.
