Amy Dowden has shared a heartening update on Instagram as she continues to undergo cancer treatment, revealing she paid a visit to her Strictly Come Dancing family.

While the professional dancer acknowledged how ‘hard’ it is not to be a part of the group numbers for the 2023 series, she ‘loved’ receiving an glam-up by the hair and make-up team before she faces her third round of chemotherapy.

The 33-year-old recently revealed that she had a terrifying health scare after her first round of chemotherapy, as she was treated in hospital for sepsis in what was deemed a ‘life-threatening’ situation by doctors.

However, following her return home, she was able to resume her treatment following her stage three breast cancer diagnosis, and has expressed her support for the cast of Strictly ahead of the launch of the new series.

‘So grateful for my @bbcstrictly family💖, yesterday was just what I needed ahead of today. I’ve felt part of the whole journey so far!’ she wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of her with sparkly make-up and glamorous lashes.

‘I’ve seen all the group numbers and the process by videos, then again watching yesterday and WOW honestly the best yet!’

The dancer continued, writing how ‘hard’ it is not to be a part of the pro line-up this year, but stressing how ‘proud’ she is to work on the show.

‘Yes it’s hard not being up there with them doing what I love but so proud to [be] part of such a talented team,’ she wrote.

‘I loved being made glamorous by the hair and make up team, putting on a sparkly dress from [wardrobe] and feeling like Amy again being at my favourite place 💖!

How to check your breasts for signs of cancer

CoppaFeel! offers three simple steps on how to check your own chest for signs of cancer.

Look

Look at your boobs, pecs or chest.

Look at the area from your armpit, across and beneath your boobs, pecs or chest, and up to your collarbone.

Be aware of any changes in size, outline or shape and changes in skin such as puckering or dimpling.

Feel

Feel each of your boobs, pecs or chest.

Feel the area from your armpit, across and beneath your boobs, pecs or chest, and up to your collarbone.

Be aware of any changes in skin such as puckering or dimpling, or any lumps, bumps or skin thickening which are different from the opposite side.

Notice your nipples

Look at each of your nipples.

Be aware of any nipple discharge that’s not milky, any bleeding from the nipple, any rash or crusting on or around your nipple area that doesn’t heal easily and any change in the position of your nipple

‘So very grateful! Now I’m on way to chemo number 3! Let’s hope no hospital admissions and scares after this one. But I’m going with a spring in my step this morning after yesterday and knowing everyday I’m closer to dancing on that floor again 💖🙏🎀.’

Actress Amanda Abbington, who’s one of the celebrities competing this year, commented underneath Amy’s post: ‘Sending you the most love. You are FABULOUS.’

‘Yes Amy!!! Your smile is so bright xxx,’ said 2022 runner-up Fleur East, while pro dancer Vito Coppola added: ‘Love you Amy.’

Strictly Come Dancing is due to return next month on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
