Ben Fogle has paid tribute to his wife on their wedding anniversary while sharing the wild story of the journey his ring has gone on.

The 49-year-old TV adventurer, who first appeared on screen in the BBC reality show Castaway 2000, has since gone on to work with the national broadcaster, ITV, Channel 5, Sky, Discovery and the National Geographic channels for various shows including Crufts, Countryfile and Animal Clinic.

Away from the cameras, in 2006 he married Marina, with whom he shares two children – son Ludovic and daughter Iona.

Now Ben has shared a message to his wife as they mark a milestone, also explaining how he’s had a few issues keeping his wedding ring on throughout the years.

‘Married for 15 years. Marina, my wife and best friend. This is my second wedding ring,’ he posted on Instagram alongside a photo with his wife.

‘I lost my first ring on the day of our wedding. It fell off while we were swimming in a lake.

‘Eventually we got another. This time I decided to wear it on a cord around my neck.’

He continued: ‘When I climbed Everest, our dear friend Jacqui gave me a little icon from her native Brazil to keep me safe.

‘While climbing Everest it somehow got ripped off between camp 4 and the summit. It was lost. And then it was found. Half buried in the snow.’

Ben went on to write: ‘The ring, our ring, I suppose is a little like our relationship, sometimes we get a little lost, but with work and the help of friends, it endures and grows stronger.

‘Maybe I will lose or misplace it again, but then, I don’t need a ring to prove my love to Marina.

‘We just need our hearts. Love, peace and happy anniversaries to anyone else celebrating theirs today.’

After reading the post Marina couldn’t help but point out one small problem though.

‘It’s actually been 17 years my darling… Maths has never been your strong point but luckily being husband, father, friend and supporter is,’ she wrote.

The couple, who first met whilst walking their dogs in Hyde Park, suffered a devastating loss in 2014 when their son Willem was stillborn due to an acute placental abruption that caused the baby to be starved of oxygen and almost killed Marina.

Ben previously said his wife was ‘minutes from dying’.

‘I very nearly lost my wife. She very, very nearly died. For her to have come within 20 minutes of dying was a huge bolt for me and was so terrifying I can’t even explain it,’ he told The Sun.

He added that ‘the thought of life without her was unbearable’.
