Kevin Costner has spoken publicly about his divorce from Christine Baumgartner and insists he still has love for the mother of his children.

The former couple’s split has garnered plenty of headlines, from Christine demanding over £100,000 in child support to her Kevin being accused of trying to make his children homeless for ordering Christine out of their multi-million dollar mansion.

Yellowstone actor Kevin, 68, was said to be contributing $129,000 (£103K) per month to support his children – Cayden Wyatt, 15, Hayes Logan, 14, and Grace Avery, 13, however Christine had approached the court to argue that it was not enough to sustain their usual lifestyle, and was seeking $175,057 (£139K) per month.

Now a judge has ruled in Kevin’s favour in the ugly child support battle, slashing his payments to a $63,000 (£50,000) a month.

Before the ruling, the actor spoke outside the courthouse to Access Hollywood, saying it was ‘a horrible place to be but this is where we’re at.’

‘It feels so bad, we’re talking about somebody I love on the other side. I just can’t.’

Asked if he still ‘has love’ for Christine, he said ‘of course.’

The child support payments being slashed comes after Christine’s team filed documents claiming he should be forced to pay more child support ‘so that the children can go on comparable vacations when they are with her. This is true even if the child support payments also improve Christine’s lifestyle’.

TMZ reported Christine felt she was cutting Kevin a deal as even the increased fee would ‘not be sufficient to replicate Kevin’s lifestyle, but it will be sufficient to allow her to provide a lifestyle for the children which is relatively comparable’.

Kevin’s recent comment is among the first times he has spoken personally about the divorce, other than a statement released through his legal team apparently provoked by a request to see any documentation ‘revealing ‘expenses paid by you, or any person at your request or on your behalf, relating to any extramarital romantic relationships’.

In the statement, he denied engaging in any ‘extramarital romantic relationships,’ through his lawyers and offered a reply that read: ‘[Kevin] does not for a fact know if [Christine] engaged in any “extramarital romantic relationships” before separation and, if so, whether she spent any of his money or charged any expenses in furtherance of her affair(s) on credit cards he paid’.

Kevin and handbag designer Christine tied the knot in 2004 and filed for divorce last May after 18 years of marriage.
