I’m a fashion expert – how to get yourself a brand new wardrobe without spending a penny

FASHION experts have weighed in on how you can get a brand new autumn wardrobe without spending a penny.

We all know the feeling of looking in our bursting wardrobe before a big event and thinking: “I have nothing to wear.”

One study recently found that nearly 61% of people said they regularly struggle to find something to wear, despite having a wardrobe full of clothing.

According to fashion experts at Today, it’s actually quite easy to find new outfits in your existing wardrobe.

Their first step was to “cull your wardrobe” of clothes that don’t fit or you haven’t worn in ages.

“Simply cutting through the clutter and paring back to items you really like can do a lot to kick-start your creativity,” they said.

Among their tips for styling was to mix-and-match baggy and loose clothes, as well as “learn to love layering”.

“Try a fitted turtleneck under a jumpsuit, tights under your favorite shorts or an A-line or baby-doll–style dress over skinny trousers,” the experts recommend.

“Layer necklaces and bracelets, too, freely mixing chain sizes and types.”

Another hack is to not limit your clothes to the season you bought them for.

For example, you can pair a summer dress with a chunky knit and some tights in the winter.

There’s also the new trend of visible mending – where you patch up a whole or rip with a visible bit of embroidery.

“Visible mending is a trend that involves embroidering or stitching artistically over holes and other defects to highlight imperfections rather than hide them,” the experts said.

“It allows you to extend the life of old favourites and add one-of-a-kind details that turn them into unique conversation-starters.”

You should also break fashion rules to make your wardrobe feel brand new.

For example, wearing double denim or donning your Birkenstocks with socks.

Your partner is also the key to getting new clobber – with his shirts offering an oversized cover you could pair with any outfit.
