The National Television Awards took an awkward turn on Tuesday when the nominees for Best Daytime Show were read out.

When This Morning was mentioned, audience members let out an audible boo at which point the camera flashed to hosts Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond sitting in the audience.

Both Holly, 42, and 48-year-old Alison didn’t appear to let the awkward moment faze them and simply smiled and clapped.

This Morning ended up losing out on the best daytime show gong, which went to The Repair Shop.

Piers Morgan was also booed at the star-studded London bash on Tuesday.

The 58-year-old TalkTV presenter was welcomed to the arena by the award show’s host Joel Dommett on the glamorous night but the reaction wasn’t quite what he expected.

As the camera panned to the infamous host, the crowd erupted into a mixture of unsavoury noises, a chorus that Piers looked less than impressed about.

He was at the ceremony in the hopes of picking up a gong for the best TV interview for his work on his show Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Not letting his little jibes go as the show progressed, the evening’s main presenter Joel didn’t miss his chance to make another dig at the broadcaster.

As he announced the category coming up after the break, the night’s leader pointed the crowd’s attention towards the nominee.

He said: ‘Piers, you’re in that one, don’t walk out’, as he let the adverts roll to which the presenter offered an unimpressed expression back.

Ahead of taking his seat in the O2, Piers said that people would ‘rather shoot themselves’ than give him an award at the ceremony while walking the red carpet.

He told the PA news agency: ‘They’d all rather shoot themselves then give me an award but, but if it’s just on interviews, hard to say that anyone else has had bigger ones that we’ve had in the last year.’
