Because you’ll need to stash your loot.

Anyone who’s dived into the Starfield universe will know that you quickly gather loads of loot on your travels – but where should you put it?
Bethesda’s first new universe in 25 years takes gamers into a world of alien wildlife and space dogfights, but opinions on Starfield have been mixed so far – with some fans preferring previous Bethesda games, such as Skyrim and Fallout.
Some have also found exploring the early planets quite boring, though Bethesda says it’s all for the sake of realism.
So as you venture deeper into the game and discover the Milky Way, how do you store weapons and items in your inventory?
Here’s what you need to know.
How to store weapons and items in Starfield inventory
You’ll rapidly gather far too much loot to keep it on you, but no worries, as you can store a load on your ship.
Using your ship’s storage is vital (PIcture: Bethesda)
To access the ship’s cargo hold/storage boxes and store items, do the following:
Get on your ship (not just the landing bay)
Navigate to your character inventory screen
Press Q on PC or LB on Xbox to switch to the ship inventory tab
You can also find the inventory panel to the left of the captain’s chair on your first ship – the Frontier – it looks like a small computer built into the wall. Every ship will have one in the cockpit.

When you’re at a vendor, pressing Q or LB will let you buy or sell items directly into the ship’s inventory.
Remember that storage is limited, so if you fill it up you’ll need to either offload a few items or buy a new storage module (or a larger ship).
Also, if you’re going full pirate, contraband items stored in the cargo hold can land you in prison if they’re discovered by security scans.

Other places to stash stuff are:
Your teammates – you can trade gear and give them items for safe keeping
Your quarters in the Constellation Lodge (there’s a safe at the foot of the bed)
Any properties you own in the galaxy – you can create weapon storage racks and mannequins to show off armour
