Josh Gad was forced to skip out of his weekend Broadway performance due to a medical emergency.

The Frozen actor, 42, addressed his health situation to his Instagram followers in the backseat of a vehicle.

‘Hey guys, I just wanted to give you a quick message,’ he began.

‘Unfortunately, I am going to not be able to do this afternoon’s show. I have a bit of a medical emergency that I have to go deal with right now.’

He added: ‘I would rather be spending my afternoon with all of you than at a hospital, but I hope that this gets resolved pretty quickly and I’ll be back on stage with my buddy [Andrew] Rannells as soon as possible.’

Hours later, the Beauty and the Beast star updated his fans with a positive update as he returned to perform in Gutenberg! The Musical.

‘GOOD NEWS,’ he penned.

‘Thanks to the phenomenal team at Lenox Hill, Iwas able to be diagnosed and treated in record time for some lower abdominal issues I’ve been having.’

He continued: ‘With their blessing, I will be back in the show this evening. Thank you all for your incredible messages and good vibes.

‘Felt them and got the best possible results! Now, let’s get back to eating dreams!

The movie swiftly became a multi-million-selling franchise, with the first film grossing more than $1.2 billion (£978.5bn) at the global box office.

The 2019 sequel proved even more successful, raking in $1.450 billion (£1.18bn).

Josh previously revealed that the project got off to a rocky start.

He explained on an episode of PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing: ‘I’ll never forget, six or seven months prior to the movie coming out, I was with [songwriter] Bobby Lopez and I said, “How’s the movie coming?” and he goes, “Well, we just screened the movie and it’s a mess.”’
