THE last of the warm weather is unfortunately behind us, but it’s not all doom and gloom.

I think it’s safe to say it is well and truly coat-season now, the temperatures have dropped and the dark nights are setting in sooner.

I must say, I much prefer dressing for winter and I was rather excited to put a coat on this morning.

No winter wardrobe is complete without the perfect coat, a go-to for when the chiller mornings kick in.

This dark brown aviator from H&M is a real winner in my eyes, at under £60 this autumn/winter staple really fits the bill.

Top tip, size up to fit chunky knits underneath, an oversized look feels more expensive too.

The neutral tone is really easy to style, I love how versatile it is; I’d definitely reach for this over and over again.

The soft teddy lining adds extra warmth and this biker style and can be worn with everything from chunky knits and jeans to skirts and boots.

I’ve layered it over this everyday casual look which I could wear for a day at the desk or to lunch with my friends.

This M&S Scarf is a steal, such a great Acne Studios dupe.

I love colour and all things fun when it comes to my clothes and this coat is no exception!

For me, more is always more so if I need to feel cosy and warm during winter I’m going to do it and still make a statement with my coat.

I love this Topshop faux fur coat and it’s even better in bold red – one of the biggest colours of the season.

I never let a cold or wet day dampen my spirits or style, so underneath I’ll wear a metallic top, maxi skirt and of course, heels.

This white pair will go with everything, like my denim skirt from & Other Stories, to black trousers and any coloured dress I have in my wardrobe.

I’ll also need a trusty tote to carry all my essentials around and this bright green one from Charles and Keith will do just that.

Plus I love the stark contrast it has between the scarlet coat.

I fell across a dressing gown coat at a John Lewis event a few weeks ago and now I am seeing them everywhere!

There is something so relaxed and unfussy about this simple design that has no zips or buttons, just a basic tie belt to keep it together.

I love that it can be high end and elegant for work over a suit and equally dressed down and relaxed with  trainers and a hoody underneath at the weekend.

I have gone somewhere in the middle for my outfit.

I have added Jeans and a nice jumper with heeled boots and a smart bag.

This feels put together but not too overstyled.

I would wear it to meet friends for a posh pub lunch and feel very zhuzhy.

I get so excited about getting a coat for the new season and usually I reach for tailored, simple styles, but this year I’m embracing all things cosy.

Shearling, sheep, sherpa or borg – whatever you like to call it the faux sheepskin texture is a must this autumn with designers Gucci and Loewe all giving the trend a huge push on the catwalk.

I love this long brown coat from M&S, the dark chocolate colour gives it an expensive feel (and means I don’t have to be as cautious with my morning coffee as I would be in cream).

Be it the morning commute or a Sunday stroll it’s one of those coats that I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of and wear with everything.

I’ll layer it with dark jeans and woolly jumpers as well as clashing satin textures with it like a simple slip dress in cream.

Suddenly the weather has changed and autumn really is in full swing.

Whilst personally I’m not fully ready to transition into my ‘big winter coat’, a bomber is the perfect option for this time of year.

Back with force this season, this style is everywhere on the high street.

I’ve opted for a wool bomber to give that extra bit of warmth, this one from River Island is in a neutral cream tone so that it really will go with everything in my wardrobe.

This time I’ve opted to wear it with a flowy printed midi dress from Zara to add a little bit of colour, along with some chunky gold earrings which I am obsessed with currently, some suede heeled boots and a shoulder bag.

At £60 this jacket is fairly mid priced for something you will get a lot of wear out of, but if you’re in the market for something a little more expensive, Massimo Dutti also have some great wool bomber options.
