Taylor Swift has hit out at the public obsession with her love life and rumours she was dating a female friend in the prologue to 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

The iconic album has been given new life after being re-recorded by Taylor and released today, October 27, along with five new Vault tracks.

In the prologue for the album, Taylor shares what she was going through when writing the original record, which gave us mega-hits from Shake It Off to Blank Space and Wildest Dreams.

The star wrote that she was sick of not being able to casually date or even ‘platonically hang out with’ men without people assuming they were sleeping together – and that this extended even to her female friendships, sparking rumours Taylor was bisexual.

In the prologue, which appears in the vinyl edition of the album, Taylor writes: ‘If I was seen with him, it was assumed I was sleeping with him. And so I swore off hanging out with guys.

‘Dating, flirting or anything that could be weaponized against me by a culture that claimed to believe in liberating women but consistently treated me with the harsh moral codes of the Victorian era.’

She said she decided she could ‘fix this’ if she ‘changed [her] behaviour,’ and instead threw herself into her music and personal growth – and ‘my female friendships.’

‘If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalise or sexualise that – right?

‘I would learn later on that people could and people would.’

Taylor has faced multiple baseless rumours that she was dating female friends over the years, despite saying she was ‘not a part’ of the LGBTQ+ community.

She had a close friendship with Glee star Dianna Agron in the 2010s, with fans insisting there was something going on between them – which Dianna denied as ‘wildly untrue.’

Model Karlie Kloss was also rumoured to be in a romantic relationship with Taylor as they became extremely close, to the point the musician revealed Karlie had her own bedroom in Taylor’s New York apartment.

Taylor is currently dating sports star Travis Kelce, with the pair going on numerous dates, the Betty singer appearing at his NFL games, and even sharing loved-up PDAs online.

She was previously in a six-year-long relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, which the former couple keeping their romance determinedly out of the spotlight.

They are believed to have split last year.
