Level Blue (@level_blue) has a notable career as a professional etiquette coach who offers courses and tips to present your best self.
In a TikTok video, she shared ten items that people shouldn’t wear that make them appear less luxurious.
First, she said that Chanel earrings or brooches, Gucci belts, and Louis Vuitton bags are all usually bought by the lower to middle class in an attempt to appear rich.
“It is not cheap, yet so many people have it. It comes across as desperate,” she explained.
Then, she claimed that Cartier love bracelets, which retail at about $7,000, are “overdone” and seen as a “borderline cheesy” style.
“You will never see a high society, sophisticated lady wearing a love bracelet. It is more of an Instagram influencer and new-money look,” she said.
Next, she mentioned that “ridiculous designer shoes that are very short-lived.”
Trends like Bottega Veneta sandals, a pair of sneakers from Jordan and Dior collab, or Jimmy Choo boots tend to be overpriced and only worn for one season.
The coach declared that it was the “silliest way to waste your money.”
She concluded the video with a powerful statement.
“Just because something is designer or expensive, doesn’t mean it is elegant or tasteful. Elegance is a lot more refined,” she detailed.
Level Blue also said that a full fur coat or a full fur hat are some of the “most tone-deaf items you can possibly wear.”
It “makes you come across as ignorant” and doesn’t actually impress people.
Lastly, she advised against pillows and blankets with loud designer branding, such as a Gucci blanket with logos or a Prada throw pillow.
“I understand that people who buy it are trying to make a statement, but the truth is it is not a good statement. In fact, it comes across as tacky and tasteless,” she said.
The expert also mentioned in the video caption that: “Elegant ladies never wear these luxury things.”
Many people shared their agreement in the comment section of the video.
“It’s all about the quiet luxury,” one commented,” while another wrote: “Money talks wealth whispers.”
A viewer commented: “Exactly. I never buy anything with someone’s name on my handbags, shirts, coats.”
“I am glad I am not flashy. Being minimal is a superpower,” another added.
