Louis Theroux has been ‘seriously’ asking his followers for advice on how to ‘continue his career’ after revealing he has alopecia.

The British-American documentary maker, 53, revealed his diagnosis on Instagram, showing the effects of the condition on his eyebrows.

Alopecia is a condition that causes hair loss and can affect many areas of the body, but predominantly impacts a person’s scalp, head, or face.

Some forms of the condition can be autoimmune, such as alopecia areata, and patients sometimes require specialist treatment to ease symptoms.

Earlier this year, the When Louis Met… creator admitted to wondering whether he’d developed alopecia after unexpectedly losing some of his facial hair.

It’s left Louis wondering how he can continue his career, with the journalist concerned that his signature style might be affected by the condition.

He posted a statement: ‘I’d like to know how I’m supposed to continue a career based largely on raising and lowering different eyebrows without any eyebrows!’

Describing his potential next steps, he said: ‘Alopecia. I’m seriously thinking of getting them tattooed back on but it feels like a big step! Thoughts?’

The comments were naturally filled with lots of helpful advice from fans of the Weird Weekends star who have also dealt with alopecia in the past.

In among the pieces of helpful advice were words of encouragement from fans who said they still considered him a ‘f*****g sex god’ with an ‘amazing face’.

The advice ranged from to suggestions of microblading, which is a semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing, to using a marker pen.

Other celebrities who deal with some form of alopecia in their daily lives include Gail Porter, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Glee actress Lea Michele, Jesy Nelson, and Ricki Lake.

In July of this year, Louis confessed the situation was ‘out of his hands’ as the alopecia had quickly migrated to several different places across his face.

‘It looks like the alopecia has migrated up to my eyebrow,’ he said. ‘I want people to acclimatise to the new partially depilated me and not freak everyone out.’

He revealed some steps he’d taken to prevent further significant hair loss: ‘I have started taking vitamin D and something called Biotin.’
