Dianne Buswell has shared a message from her dad after he was forced to miss attending Strictly Come Dancing this weekend due to chemotherapy treatment.

Last month the Australian professional dancer, 34, revealed her dad Mark was unwell.

Sharing a Q&A video on social media, Dianne, who is currently competing on the dancing series with EastEnders star Bobby Brazier, 20, said she wanted to share why she’d been visibly emotional on air and went on to explain that her dad, who lives in Australia, had been diagnosed with a health condition.

A few weeks later she revealed he’d begun chemotherapy treatment and plans for her family to come visit her in the UK had been put on hold.

She’s now shared a sweet update from her dad as he wished her luck ahead of the next round of the show after he was meant to be in the audience tonight.

In the video, which she re-shared to her social media, Mark wished his daughter and Bobby ‘all the best’ for their next performance.

‘We are both very proud of you and hope you make it through for the next week,’ he said.

‘Just try your best, and I know you will, and enjoy it. Love Mum and Dad.’

Captioning her post, Dianne wrote: ‘Woke up to this. Mark’s upped his message game this week and has done a little recording.’

‘This was the week my parents were going to be in the audience…however Dad says it’s a good thing he’s not because back in the day his nickname was Patrick Swayze as he looked so similar to him and dad didn’t want the attention off Bobby,’ she added.

She concluded the post by writing: ‘Love ya Dad. I’m going to try my very best as always in my concert tonight! Hopefully it’s enough to make it to the semifinal concert.’

Each week Mark sends Dianne a message of support ahead of the live shows, which she then re-shares with her followers.

A few weeks ago, she provided an insight into his treatment to them as well.

‘I’m so proud of you dad. First round of chemotherapy today,’ she shared in one post.

‘Chemotherapy is a drug treatment that uses powerful chemicals to kill fast-growing cells to stop them from reproducing, getting bigger and spreading. It is often used on patients who have cancer, but can also be used to treat other conditions including blood disorders, and autoimmune diseases.’

She added: ‘I wish I could be there to hold your hand and support you in person. But I do know that I’m making you so proud over here in my concert every week!’

When first revealing her dad was unwell, Dianne said she was heartbroken to be so far away from her family.

‘Being away from home and not being able to support and help your family in a time of need is quite a difficult thing so I did struggle a little bit last week in terms of that,’ she shared.

While Dianne’s family had plans to head to the UK for Christmas and watch her on Strictly, she said that wouldn’t be happening and she was instead planning on going home to Australia at the end of the year.

When sharing his health diagnosis with her followers, Dianne said there was ‘a little road ahead’ for him, but she believed he was ‘going to be fine’ and that the family were ‘going to get through it together’.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.25pm on BBC One.
