The new Chapter of Fortnite is almost half as fast as it used to be, and fans don’t like it one bit.

The new Fortnite chapter is only a couple of days old but fans have already found something to complain about and in this case it seems quite understandable, as the game is suddenly much slower than it used to be.

Whenever Fortnite starts a new season, and especially a new chapter, there’s always lots of changes, additions, and gameplay tweaks for fans to discover, with Chapter 5 adding three new game modes but also a revamped movement system.

Some of these changes haven’t gone down well with fans, as the movement speeds are now as much as 43% slower, with many running to social media to complain.

One Reddit user, named Thecoolgamer60, uploaded a video comparing the old and new speed of their character, revealing just how much of a change there’s been.

Hours later, another post on Reddit did the exact same thing, but whilst crouching, and claims that the movement speed is now 43% slower than before.

Watching the videos, it’s clear that by both comparisons you’re slightly slower in the new update when running, but much slower than before when crouching.

Here’s the comparison when running (the comparison when crouching is at the bottom of the article):

Both posts have gained a lot of traction and fans are mostly very unhappy with the movement nerf, with one commentor saying:

‘I wonder why they slowed us down. It is a marked difference and annoying.’

‘Also the crouch walk speed is so slow. Fortnite had really smooth movement, I don’t know why they made it worse,’ said another.

Slower movement can also cause problems for players when the storm approaches – the circle that periodically shrinks and forces players to fight in smaller and smaller areas – with two commentors agreeing something is ‘off’.

‘I’ve been in the storm every game I’ve played. The timing is off,’ said one commentor, while another replied:

‘Yeah think about the amount of times you’ve barely escaped the storm, with this new movement you just accept your fate.’

A quick game is often a good game, and Fortnite was known for its fast-paced gameplay, so slowing that down is a strange move by Epic Games.
