Amy Winehouse’s estate is bringing a legal case against two of the late icon’s friends, claiming they profited from selling her personal property.

The late star’s father Mitch Winehouse is suing Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay over £730,000 after he claimed they sold off items belonging to her at auction.

The case comes as promotion heats up for a biopic on the Back to Black singer, who tragically died aged 27 on July 23, 2011, from alcohol poisoning.

Mitch, 73, is the administrator of his daughter’s estate and according to court documents it is alleged the two women sent ‘various items of personal property owned by Amy during her lifetime’.

These items went to two auctions in 2021 and this year, with the estate claiming that by putting the items up for sale ‘in their own names and on their own behalf’ the women ‘converted’ Winehouse’s property ‘to their own use’.

The Valerie singer’s estate is seeking £534,192.90 in damages from Parry while also claiming £198,041.07 from Gourlay.

A statement first issued by a spokesperson for the Amy Winehouse Estate last month said: ‘In 2021, Amy’s estate auctioned items from her life and career with 30% of the proceeds going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

‘Two individuals sold a number of items at that auction and have retained the proceeds: the items were all Amy related. This year they have put more Amy-related items up for auction and together the two auctions have generated six figure sums for each of them.

‘The estate has questioned how these items came into their possession and has not had satisfactory answers. The estate has therefore launched a legal process to clarify the situation .

‘The Amy Winehouse Foundation will directly benefit if monies are recovered from either defendant.’

The charity provides emotional support to young people in hopes of helping them make positive choices in their lives.

Amy’s 2006 album Back To Black made her an international star and won five Grammys, including record of the year and song of the year for Rehab.

Bryan Adams recently spoke about how he had tried to ‘help’ Winehouse when they met and became friends.

‘I met Amy when I photographed her and we became friends, so I invited her to spend the holidays with my family,’ he told The Sunday Times.

He continued: ‘I tried to help her but, you know, it’s got to come from within. I really don’t know what happened with Amy and it is so sad because she was so, so talented and I so admired her individuality massively.’

‘But did I make a difference? I don’t know,’ he concluded.
