One shopper recently took to Facebook to moan about her bracelet from Pandora tarnishing – despite not spraying perfume on it or wearing it to the beach.

Her £55 Moments Bracelet, which is made from polished sterling silver, had turned brown and patchy after a short stint of wearing.

She took it back to the store to get the tarnishing corrected, but according to the experts at Pandora, there’s consistent TLC you can give your silver goods at home to stop it from happening.

Silver is likely to oxidise and turn a darker colour when exposed to air over a longer period of time, the experts explained.

“Don’t worry, though,” they assured.

“This is absolutely normal, and it doesn’t mean you aren’t looking after your jewellery properly.”

To reduce tarnishing, you should store each piece of jewellery separately in a tarnish-resistant box or pouch.

You should also remove it prior to swimming, bathing or sports, and limit contact with make-up, perfumes and lotions.

By way of cleaning, you should buff your Pandora goods frequently with a soft polishing cloth to maintain their shine.

For gems, you need to clean with a soft brush and soapy water.

“Add a small amount of mild soap to lukewarm water and use a soft toothbrush to brush the jewellery in a circular motion,” the experts advised.

“If the dirt is hard to remove, soak the jewellery in the soapy water for five to ten minutes.”

If you wear your jewellery every day, you should aim to clean it every two weeks.

“Remember not to use any harsh abrasives when cleaning your Pandora jewellery,” the experts advised.

“Avoid using ultrasonic cleaners, which may cause damage.

“A polishing cloth cannot remove any scratches, so make sure to handle your jewellery with care.

“Be careful not to knock it against hard surfaces as this could damage it.”
