MJF has been removed from the AEW roster page after his contract was due to expire.
The former world champion – whose full name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman – has been linked with a shock move to WWE after The Iron Claw star previously revealed his contract with All Elite Wrestling was expiring on January 1.
There have been recent reports suggesting the 27-year-old star had already ‘quietly’ inked a new deal keeping him at AEW until 2027.
However, the new year has been rung in and MJF is no longer listed on the company’s website as part of the roster.
It comes after he lost the AEW World Title to former WWE star Samoa Joe at the Worlds End event on Saturday night.
Last month, Haus of Wrestling reported that there have been no talks with WWE, leading some people to think him being removed could be part of a storyline.

MJF recently revealed he has been dealing with a litany of injuries too, leaving his in-ring plans unclear in the near future.
It’s known if he’ll be returning to AEW once he’s healed up, or if he will indeed be making a huge move to WWE.
His next steps have been a source of plenty of speculation, and current WWE star Liv Morgan – who has struck up a friendship with MJF – previously backed him to ‘be a star’ wherever he ends up.
‘When 2024 comes, I think only he can know or decide what is best,’ she exclusively told Metro.co.uk. ‘I think whatever he wants to do is gonna be the best decision for him. Wherever he goes, I’m just he’ll be a star.’

‘I’m wrestling Samoa Joe for the world title on Saturday night, and I have no idea what’s going to happen after that,’ he wrote for the Players’ Tribune.
‘You’ll probably hear some stories about me over the next few days, about my contract, about the injuries I’ve been dealing with, about the condition my body is in, about who knows what else.
‘I’m sure it’ll all leak. That’s fine.’
He revealed his ‘hip is a mess’, and he can’t lift his arm above his head.
‘I’m on painkillers, which are not my thing. I can’t sleep,’ he continued. ‘I know it’s not only me who’s tired. I know our fans are a little tired of this run I’ve been on.
‘And for the first time since this company started, I know there’s some MJF fatigue. Which is fine, by the way — no one stays hot forever.
‘Right now, though, as I’m writing this? It’s Wednesday morning. It’s three days before Worlds End. It’s five days from five years of MJF in AEW. And I don’t know what comes next.’
Perhaps coincidentally, Andrade El Idolo has also been removed from the AEW website, with his contract confirmed to have expired and a return to WWE seemingly imminent.
