Fashion predictions for 2024 include ‘purple becoming a big thing’ and ‘ugly’ y2k hat making a comeback

TRENDS come and go, but some styles are about to have a major moment – according to some fashionistas.

From questionable YK2 trend to the colour purple, here are the fashions which will be everywhere in 2024.

Whilst noughties fashion might bring back bad memories of how you dressed as a kid or in uni, it’s having a huge resurgence right now.

From dresses being layered over trousers to lace camisoles at Massimo Dutti, designers have been drawing endless inspiration from twenty years ago.

It’s not just high end couture either, with YK2 trend being everywhere on social media and even appearing in films like Saltburn – with Jacob Elordi sporting high collared rugby shirts and even, an eyebrow piercing.

Early noughties fashion won’t be going away any time soon either, with sky high heels making a return in 2024.

Though many of us might have struggled to stay up right on the dancefloor in them, platform shoes will be everywhere this year.

Just like in the noughties, these shoes will have chunky heels to help us put our best foot forward in 2024.

If the boho trend wasn’t enough of a throw back, you’ll also see the return of sky high stilettoes.

As with Y2K fashion, these shoes will have glitter embellishments and long straps that wrap around your ankle – similar to gladiator sandals, remember them?

Rene Caovilla already released a pair worth over a whopping £1000, with these girly trends set continue this year and beyond thanks to the popularity of balletcore fashion.

For all you wanna be ballerinas, be sure to pick up your heels in silver as reflective materials are also set to take over the catwalk.

These aren’t the only noughties trend set to return this year though.

Get ready to do your best Keira Knightley impression as the baker hat is also back.

Despite Christmas being over, the hat made famous by Love Actually has gone up in the style stakes thanks to the ‘frazzled English woman’ aesthetic on Tiktok.

With so many young women wanting to be Bridget Jones or characters from rom coms, expect off the shoulders sweaters to also return in a big way.

Chunky scarves will continue to be popular, especially the Acne Studio version – even with the eye watering price tag (£250).

The only difference you’ll have to make is swapping out your New Balances, as fashion expert and Tiktoker @girlbossiskatemoss claims that these will no longer be the go-to easy trainer in 2024.

Bows might also be about unravel, despite old money aesthetic still being everywhere.

Instead, style experts are opting for a more grown up, or rather regal, fashion this year.

Though they used to be reserved for royalty, deep purples, such as aubergine or eggplant, are set to dominate fashion this year

If you want to power dress in 2024, you might also want to raid your wardrobe for any lilac items as this shade has already appeared on the runway for Coach.

Unsurprisingly, these trend have already begun to catch the attention of some Tiktok user and many aren’t happy with @girlbossiskatemoss’s predictions.

One complained: “Purple is so pretty but every shade of purple makes me look like a corpse.”

Reacting to the YK2 ‘ugly’ hat, another added: “Anything but that hat.”

However, other users said they are ready to recreate the noughties with the iconic look from Love Actually.

“Love those hats,” gushed a third, writing: “It gives me devil wears Prada vibes…also old money style is sooo pretty.”

We guess only time will tell whether these noughties trends will catch on in 2024.
