Carrie Bernans has been left seriously injured and in ‘so much pain’ after an alleged hit and run in New York City.

The Color Purple actress was one of nine people struck by the driver around 1.30am on Monday morning while walking past a food stand with friends.

The horrific incident comes months after she excitedly welcomed her first child – a baby boy named Jaxon – into the world.

Carrie, who starred as one of the elite female warriors in Marvel’s Black Panther, is reportedly in stable condition and she is undergoing surgery after the incident.

She was struck at Chirp, a Peruvian restaurant in midtown Manhattan, when a driver crashed into the venue before reversing and hitting a car in an attempt to escape, her publicist confirmed toDeadline.

Her mum, Patricia Lee, shared an update on Instagram, detailing the extent of the actress’ injuries and revealing she had been knocked unconscious.

Patricia wrote: ‘She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time…She’s in so much pain but healing. She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, early 40s was trying to escape a hit and run and ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend & her were walking near.

‘It ended up knocking her unconscious and pended her under the stand. She was under it unaware of what was happening.

‘She has a few broken bones, fractures, & chipped teeth but thanking God that she’s alive. Nine people were injured in his attempted escape from the hit & run, including 3 police officers.

‘Police caught him shortly after and arrested him. Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself.’

Carrie also shared an incredibly raw video on her own Instagram, showing her swollen and injured face.

‘I haven’t really got any sleep in a long time,’ Carrie told her followers as she revealed she still cannot walk and is in ‘so much pain’.

During the video, the stuntwoman also confirmed that her surgery ‘went well’ and she had been under anaesthetic but didn’t elaborate on what exactly was being done.

The Endgame actress shared that her son was at the forefront of her mind and added that despite her pain she had been pumping breast milk for her baby because she ‘cares about him.’

Carrie shared that her sister and family were taking care of Jaxon, who was born in May, while she recovers in hospital.

She finished her video by thanking those who had been sending their love and support for her before Patricia shared some well-wishes on her story on her behalf.
