Channel 4 series Taskmaster is eyeing up legendary comedian Jasper Carrott in what would be his first major TV show appearance for a decade.

The Brummie entertainer, real name Robert Davis, 78, hasn’t appeared regularly on our screens since 2004 when sitcom All About Me, in which he played Colin alongside Nina Wadia, came to an end, according to IMDb.

But that could be about to change if Taskmaster’s (Little) Alex Horne, 45, has his way and, presumably, runs it by his master Greg Davies, 55, first.

For Jasper is top of Alex’s wishlist of contestants for the beloved gameshow, which has previously starred the likes of Katherine Ryan, Frank Skinner, Romesh Ranganathan and Aisling Bea.

When asked who would be his dream celebrity for Taskmaster, Alex told the Always Be Comedy podcast ‘There are a few old-school people who I’d love to have, like [Jasper] Carrott.’

Also naming Joe Pasquale as a potential contestant, he added: ‘He’s not chasing things [career-wise], but I think [Joe] Pasquale would do it and I think he would be great.

‘But it’s a big conversation because if you’re having Pasquale, you’re not having someone else and it’s ten weeks.’

While Jasper is no longer a TV regular, like he was in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, he still performs stand-up comedy.

In 2022, he toured his Stand Up & Rock show, along with The Bev Bevan Band, across the UK in places such as Truro and Bath.

On TV, Jasper is known for presenting daytime game show Golden Balls from 2007 to 2009 and sketch show Canned Carrott from 1990 to 1995.

Jasper has also portrayed fictional characters, starring as Bob Louis in TV series The Detectives, and recently had a role on the long-running radio drama The Archers.

Meanwhile, Joe, 62, is best known for being a comedian, as well as an actor and TV presenter.

He previously won the fourth series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004 and he finished seventh in the eighth series of Dancing on Ice in 2013.

Launched in 2015, Taskmaster sees five celebrities take on a series of improbable and chaotic challenges overseen by Alex, with Greg awarding them a score out of five based on their performance.

Taskmaster is available to stream on Channel 4.
