You can now add modern day weaponry into the medieval fantasy world of Baldur’s Gate 3 – and fans are loving it.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a great game full of characters, dialogue, and weapons, but since developer Larian has always allowed fans to modify its games you can expect some… interesting evolutions for the fantasy role-playing title.

It may feel sacrilegious to change how the game that won Game Of The Year is played, but at the same time it gives you another way to enjoy the experience.

There are already lots of mods for the PC version, and one creator has added the option of putting modern guns like the Glock pistol and a rocket launcher into the hands of Tav, Shadowheart, and Astarion.

Among the weapons that they can use are the Glock 19, the AKM assault rifle, a Colt revolver, an RPG 7 rocket launcher, and even a ‘comically large spoon’.

Baldur’s Gate 3 can be quite a challenging game, so a rocket launcher would go a long way, if you want to blend modern weapons with the medieval fantasy world.

The mods were created by Palmaman33 on the modding site Nexus Mods, and they clearly don’t take them entirely seriously, with descriptions like:

‘Sometimes you need more than just a spell book,’ and, ‘Sometimes magic just doesn’t have the same satisfying ‘bang’ as a six-shooter.’

The weapons come in different levels of rarity, but are far more powerful than most weapons in the game – like a mere dagger, for example.

The rarest rocket launcher deals up to 110 damage, for the relatively cheap price of 2,048 gold.

The Glock 19 pistol is twice as cheap and deals up to 57 damage, which is still very good.

Fans are loving the mods, with one commentator saying how, ‘This legitimately makes for a really interesting (still OP [over-powered] but you can still get wrecked) playthrough that is honestly like playing a fantasy gunslinger.

‘Like, this oddly works really, really well. Major kudos there!’

Many fans are worried about Astarion packing heat, given his duplicitous nature, but there are no story elements that refer to the new weapons.

At the end of the day, video games are about having fun and blasting goblin foes into oblivion with a rocket launcher certainly sounds like fun.
