Sony has been showing off just how popular PS5 was last month, as well as driving a car using a DualSense.
Fans might not have been entirely happy but there’s no doubting that 2023 was a good year for Sony, with PlayStation 5 sales increasing from 40 million in July to 50 million by December.
Almost 500,000 games consoles were sold in the UK in December, with the PlayStation 5 being the best selling console of the year.
It also seems that a lot of people have spent their Christmas break playing Sony’s console, with 123 million people using the PlayStation Network in December alone.
That means that more monthly active users had played games or used the PlayStation Network in December than in any other month ever.
This number includes not just players on the PlayStation 5, but PlayStation 3 and 4, as well as PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita.
Sony revealed the news at a press conference at the CES trade show in Las Vegas this week.

As usual, there wasn’t much other gaming related information at the conference, but COO of Afeela, the Sony and Honda car yet to be released, drove an Afeela car on stage using a PlayStation DualSense controller.
CEO of Sony Pictures Television Studios, Katherine Pope, also popped up to say that the God Of War and Horizon Zero Dawn TV adaptations are in the writing stage, while showing off footage of a Gravity Rush adapation.
‘The Last of Us generated tremendous interest for both gamers and non-gamers alike and was the second most-watched HBO series in 13 years. We are really excited to be underway with The Last of Us Season 2 as well,’ she said, via wccftech.
You can watch the whole conference in the video below, although, like we said, there isn’t much mention of the gaming side of things at Sony.
