Inspired by a Super Smash Bros. loading screen, streaming platform Kick has savagely replied to Elon Musk’s plan to make Twitter a live streaming rival.
Elon Musk is no stranger to video games, having previously talked about his fondness for games like Elden Ring and Bioshock, and has streamed himself playing Diablo 4 several times.
The wealthiest person in the world has also said he was one of the top Quake players in the world, although others dispute that.
Musk wants to explore the gaming world further, however, and has said he intends to make Twitter a live streaming rival, which prompted Kick, the platform known for having an edgier side than Twitch, to make fun of the billionaire.
The SpaceX and Tesla boss live-streamed himself playing Diablo 4 on Twitter last week, when he said Twitter is looking at ways to monetise its site for content creators by adding a tipping function and a favourable ad revenue for streamers.
This got the attention of Kick, the streaming platform that launched in 2022 and paid $100 million for xQc to stream on their site.
Kick shot back at the news by posting an unflattering picture of Musk on Twitter, with the caption: ‘A foe has appeared! Challenger approaching.’

Despite their bravado Kick may be a bit nervous, seeing as Musk owns Twitter, and followed up their comments with another post, saying, ‘Please don’t shadow ban us Elon. I’m sorry.’
Musk didn’t give a time frame for these potential additions on Twitter, but it sounds like a push for a live streaming service will become an important feature on the platform in the future.
But then again, a lot of what Musk says doesn’t end up happening, so maybe Kick don’t have a new challenger after all.
