A new version of the PS5 DualSense controller has been accidentally revealed by a retailer, that fixes one of the original’s main problems.

After years of only iterative improvement with the iconic DualShock controllers, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense was welcome as a major step forward and probably the best joypad there’s ever been.

There was one very noticeable flaw though: its short battery life. Depending on how much a game uses its haptic features and lights the controller can last as little as six hours on one charge.

The new DualSense V2 boasts double that though, despite the controller being slightly smaller and lighter than the original – even though it seems to look exactly the same.

The DualSense V2 is 280g instead of 360g, which is a pretty significant change. It’s largely the same width but it’s 16cm tall instead of 19cm and 10.6cm deep instead of 19cm.

Sony hasn’t hinted at any kind of redesign before, so this comes as a bit of a surprise, but as of time of writing the listing on Canadian retail website Best Buy is still live.

If it’s been taken down by the time you read this the only other significant detail seems to be that it comes with a free charging station that ‘offers easy click-in charging’.

However, perhaps the most significant piece of information is that it’s the same price as the original model, so that should equate to £60 in the UK.

Assuming it’s out soon, the controller arrives just a few months after the PS5 Slim console model, to which this seems an obvious companion.

It’ll no doubt end up being bundled with the console in the future and it probably won’t be long until it’s offered in various colours, as PlayStation controllers always are.

Oddly, the revelation comes only the day after new colour covers were revealed for the PS5 Silm and the original V1 DualSense. Although it’s possible the same covers will be offered for the V2 model as well, at the same time.
