Trent Seven has credited Santino Marella with helping him find a new home in TNA Wrestling.

The 42-year-old wrestler, who was in WWE for six years until the NXT UK brand was shut down in 2022, will be in action at TNA’s Hard To Kill event this weekend and he has the former Intercontinental Champion to thank.

As well as praising the impact Toronto’s Destiny Wrestling have had on his run since getting released, he exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’m very, very lucky to have a great relationship with Santino Marella as well.

‘You know, what he’s done for me over the last year is wonderful, as well as really taking me under his kind of wing – and just being there [for me],;

Rather than in any one area, Trent described the support Santino – who is TNA’s on screen Director of Authority – has given him as an ‘overall package’, while plenty of other people have been there along the way.

‘You just kind of need that in your life. You know, you need someone to kind of just have your back a little bit, and give you that little bit of a nudge when you’re doing the right thing or the wrong thing or just guide you in the right direction,’ he explained.

‘No matter how old or experienced you are, you know, there’s always someone out there who’s had a bigger, better career, who knows something, who knows a little trick here and there, or kick you in the right direction.’

Landing in TNA Wrestling has lit a fire in Trent, who wants to embrace the creative ‘freedom’ under company president Scott D’Amore to push on in 2024, with two ‘major’ ideas in his mind.

‘One, obviously, selfishly, I still have goals, and I have dreams,’ he said. ‘T he positive side of that is I didn’t start wrestling when most 40-year-old wrestlers started wrestling,. So I know I’ve got a lot more left in me than the date of birth states.’

The flipside is a chance to work with the next crop of stars rising through the ranks, including one of TNA’s newest signings, UK star Leon Slater.

‘That real extrinsic reward is being there with the newer talent coming through,’ he added. ‘It goes without saying that Leon Slater is one of the brightest stars in professional wrestling. Now I get the opportunity to watch that evolve for the course of the next X amount of years.’

Another source of inspiration for this period in Trent’s career is being part of the promotion as it returns to the TNA Wrestling branding, evoking memories of the likes of Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and more making waves under those three letters.

I’m incredibly excited to be part of TNA – and that’s not just saying that because I’ve just signed a contract,’ he laughed. ‘But really thinking back to you know, the age I am and the experience and what I’ve done in wrestling, and what I’ve seen as a fan in wrestling, there’s a lot to live up to in the TNA brand, that’s for sure.

‘So that puts a nice little bit of responsibility on my shoulders to make sure I go out there and tear it up.’

TNA Wrestling: Hard To Kill 2024 airs Saturday night (January 14) at 1am. Tune in via TrillerTV.
