Davina McCall has addressed Dionne Warwick’s early exit from The Masked Singer after viewer complaints.

After just one performance the legendary artist disguised as ‘Weather’ was shown the door.

After being in the bottom two alongside Dippy Egg and Maypole, the judges – Davina, Mo Gilligan, Charlie Simpson and Jonathan Ross – decided to axe Weather, who was unveiled as 83-year-old Dionne.

The panel had guessed the star correctly, which is part of the reason she had to go, explained Davina, 56, on This Morning.

She felt the need to justify their decision after host Dermot O’Leary represented the nation by saying to Davina: ‘Dionne Warwick is out. What?’

‘Can I explain why? Dermot, this is a guessing game, and when she opened her mouth we went “It’s Dionne Warwick”. She didn’t try and hide it, you can’t hide it,’ Davina stated.

‘Also, once we’ve all got it, it’s a bit “Where do we go from here?”‘

Following Dionne off the stage was Pointless host and ClassicFM radio DJ Alexander Armstrong, who was dressed as Chicken Caesar and left the competition in week two.

Now ten celebrities will continue to perform for their chance to stay in that competition, of course in their elaborate costumes to keep their identity under wraps – Owl, Rat, Cricket, Piranha, Eiffel Tower, Maypole, Bigfoot, Dippy Egg, Bubble Tea, and Air Fryer remain.

If you’re not entirely familiar with the ITV show – the premise is that various celebrities hide behind costumes and compete anonymously in the competition.

The best part of the show is the big reveal of the contestants voted out. Their mask comes off and we finally discover if our predictions have been correct.

This Morning host Dermot, 50, could be featured in the next series if Davina gets her way.

She used the interview as her opportunity to convince him to participate, and asked: ‘Dermot, would you ever do it?’

A smiling Dermot replied: ‘I don’t know. It’s not a no…’

Davina immediately pretended to call Masked Singer bosses and while speaking into a fake phone she said: ‘Ring Dermot now, I think he might do it!’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.

The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
