The King of Pop is coming to the big screen with a Michael Jackson biopic in the works.
With Queen and Sir Elton John also receiving the cinema treatment in Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman based on their careers, fans of the Thriller hitmaker will be able to follow his incredible musical tale in Michael.
One of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th Century, the Jackson 5 singer became one of the best-selling musicians of all time and won numerous awards across his four-decade career before his death in 2009.
Lionsgate Studio has confirmed that Michael will be released on April 25, 2025, with a member of the Jackson family taking on the titular role.
Sharing a picture where Jaafar looks eerily like Michael himself, he said he was ‘humbled and honoured’ to have taken on the role.

Further casting information is yet to be announced for the Antoine Fuqua-directed film.
Fuqua, best known for his work in The Equalizer franchise, is keen to show the world the similarities between Jaafar and the Thriller singer.
‘It’s uncanny how much he’s like Michael … sounds like him, dances like him, sings,’ he told Entertainment Weekly.
The film will be produced by Bohemian Rhapsody’s Graham King with a script by John Logan, who worked on the likes of Gladiator, The Aviator, and James Bond films Spectre and Skyfall.
An official synopsis for the project reads: ‘Michael will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became the King of Pop.

‘As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.’
Michael is being made in conjunction with the singer’s estate and will be co-produced by co-executors John Branca and John McClain.
It is unknown how the allegations of child sexual abuse around the star will be tackled.
Michael’s career spanned four decades. His album Thriller is the best-selling album of all time after it sold more than 70million copies worldwide.
He died in 2009 aged 50.
The autopsy declared his cause of death was an overdose of sedatives and the anaesthetic propofol, which his personal doctor administered.
Michael will be released in cinemas on April 25, 2025.
