The former partners sat down for an honest conversation about how they were able to retain a friendship.
‘Sue, you and I were together for years and years but we have managed to go to actually being very, very good friends,’ began Anna, 53, on her podcast It Can’t Just Be Me.
Comedian and former Great British Bake Off presenter Sue, 54, immediately broke out into a smile as Anna asked her to explain how they did it.
‘How did we do it though? How did we manage to get here? Because we didn’t speak -,’ she explained.
Sue interjected with ‘for a long time,’ showing they can still finish each other’s sentences.

Remaining in each other’s lives meant that they had to use the time apart to let go of certain things.
‘You have to sort of detonate parts of the familiar in order to grow new things and different ways of being which are born out of friendship.’
She continued: ‘And also, you have to forgive what’s been. Don’t do history lessons. And I think once you get that space the history lessons stop.’
Sue gave us a glossary lesson and explained that by ‘history lessons’ she means that they can’t bring up past disagreements every time they have a row, and instead must remain focused on current issues.

‘Our break, split and then time apart has meant that we no longer do history lessons. We can forgive and go “It’s all okay”,’ she concluded.
Naked Attraction presenter Anna firmly agreed with the analysis provided by Sue, who she co-parents adopted Staffordshire Bull Terrier Piggy Tiggy with.
During the heartfelt chat, they also spoke about Anna previously being in a relationship with Charles Martin for around 20 years and described how feeling for Sue met she had to recalibrate.
‘When I met you I had the recalibration of “Hang on a second, I’ve met someone and hang on a second, I’m falling in love with” This is new and a challenge,’ she recalled.

Sue couldn’t resist a joke: ‘That’s what they all say.’
Anna then heaped praise on her former partner for how he handled the change.
‘It’s a challenge not just for me, but clearly for him and I have to show him huge respect here because he was actually very decent to us both. It’s a challenge for our families and friends, it’s a recalibration,’ she told listeners.
