Katherine Ryan has opened up again about sexual predators in the comedy industry.

In 2022, the 40-year-old famously told Louis Theroux in their BBC interview that there was a well-known male sexual predator at large in the comedy industry, causing much speculation of who this could be.

‘We’ve seen what happens to the people who talk about alleged predators,’ she told Louis at the time, saying it was legally ‘dangerous’ for her to speak about it.

Katherine said: ‘No one has perpetrated any sexual assault against me, but this person, I believe very strongly – many people believe very strongly – is an open secret, is a perpetrator of sexual assault.

‘I, in front of loads of people, in the format of the show said to this person’s face that they are a predator.’

Then came the release of a joint investigation The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4 Dispatches, which accused Russell Brand of sexually assault, rape, and emotional abuse during a seven-year period – claims he denies.

On the investigation’s September 2023 release, many people harked back to Katherine’s comments, pointing out that if her allegations of a ‘male predator’ was indeed Brand, this was an ‘open secret’ in the comedy world.

Now, Katherine has spoken out again.

When asked whether she’s been subject to predatory behaviour in the comedy world, Katherine gave a firm response.

‘You mean, was I ever assaulted? No. People were always very scared of me,’ she told The Sunday Times.

Also looking back at her shock revelation to Louis, Katherine claims she ‘didn’t do it for any pat on the back’.

She continued: ‘I’m not the only person who knew things – I’m probably not the only person who said anything.

‘It was important to highlight all these different ways women exercise assessment and vigilance in their day-to-day lives. “How do I stay safe at work today? How do I keep other people safe? How do I honour my value but do this job?”

‘That’s what it was about.’

When asked whether she’s happy now that she did it, Katherine replied, “No,” and explained how she didn’t make the revelation so she could be vindicated.

Since the investigation into Brand – which told the alleged stories of four women – was published, more have since come forward with further accusations.

Brand has vehemently denied all accusations, describing any sexual encounters as ‘consensual’.

In light of the investigation, Brand was stripped of revenue from his ‘wellness’ YouTube channel, on which he has almost 6.7 million subscribers.
