Bandai Namco accidentally uses joke box art for Tekken 2 during 30th celebration-Adam Starkey-Entertainment – Metro

Bandai Namco appears to have accidentally used a viral version of the Tekken 2 box art during an official stream.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Tekken franchise, which originally debuted in arcades back in 1994.

During the Tekken World Tour finals, developer Bandai Namco shared some announcements to commemorate the milestone – with soundtracks from past instalments in the series set to be released on streaming services from January 26, the same day Tekken 8 comes out.

However, the celebratory segment had an error tucked away in the margins. As noticed by Twitter user @PrinceWhatever, a timeline showing past games in the series featured the wrong version of the Tekken 2 box art, and instead used a joke version edited by fans.

In the edited version, which seemingly originates from a Reddit post from seven years ago, characters from other gaming franchises have been added to the box art, including Devil May Cry’s Dante, Resident Evil’s Chris Redfield, and Chun Li from Street Fighter.

It seems to have been an accident, with a commentor below the post pointing out that this same mistake happened in a Bandai Namco tweet from September 2023 – so the image may have been loitering in their marketing materials.

At the event, the developers also shared the suitably stylish and frenetic opening cinematic for Tekken 8, which you can view below.

Eddy Gordo was also announced as the first DLC character for the first season pass. After Gordo comes out in the spring, three more unannounced characters are set to be released in summer, autumn, and winter respectively.

Elsewhere at the Tekken World Tour finals, the last ever for Tekken 7, Arslan Ash defeated CherryBerryMango (CBM) 3-1 to win the tournament. The Pakistani player has previously won four EVO championships, with this new title cementing his legacy as one of the best Tekken players ever.

Tekken 8 is set to be released on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and PC on January 26. If you want to try it out before then, a demo is currently available on all platforms.
